About UsTexas Academy of Mathematics and Science: In 1987, the Texas Legislature and University of North Texas established a unique partnership called the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science. The academy was designed to accelerate the education of Texas high school students who were high achievers in mathematics and science. Students begin the program when they would have been in the 11th grade, concurrently completing the last two years of high school and the first two years of college. Fifty-seven semester credit hours are required for graduation, although with electives most students earn about seventy credit hours. Graduates are able to finish the undergraduate degree in only two years because of the credit earned at the academy. We also host the TAMS MES competition, an online test-based competition ranging from physics to mathematics. University of North Texas: The university is a selective, state-assisted, coeducational institution founded in 1890. One of Texas' Big Five, it is the most comprehensive in the region, offering bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. Colleges within the university include Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Public Affairs and Community Service, Education, Engineering, Honors and Music. Schools include Library and Information Sciences, Merchandising and Hospitality Management, Visual Arts, and the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies. Enrollment is more than 33,000 students, with approximately 92 percent Texas residents. There are more than 1,400 full- and part-time faculty. The campus includes more than 160 structures on approximately 850 acres, including the main campus, Eagle Point Campus, Research Park, Library Annex, Astronomy Observatory, Water Research Field Station, the Newton Rayzor property and the Liberty Christian facility, which will become the Women's Athletics Complex. The University of North Texas System includes the Denton campus, UNT Health Science Center at Fort Worth, and UNT Dallas. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us tt@tamstournament.com. |
